The Pantanal is one of the largest wetland areas in the world, many large rivers drain into this region seasonaly flooding may parts it also contains some very good areas of rainforest. Due to the great variety of habitats in the region it is also one of the richest areas of bio-diversity in Brazil and probably the world.
